What is Lung Cancer Treatment?

Lung cancer is the cells in lungs start to grow in an uncontrolled way and form tumor. Tumors are lumps of tissue made up of abnormal cells.     • Surgery

    • Radiation Therapy

Radiation Therapy uses high energy rays to kill cancer cells. It affects cells in the treated area. External radiation is the most common type of radiation therapy for lung cancer. Treatments are usually 5 days a week for several weeks. Besides that, the side affect for radiation is depend on the type of radiation therapy, the dose of radiation, and the part of your body that is treated.

    • Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is given in cycles. It uses drugs to kill cancer cells. The drugs then enter the bloodstream and can affect cancer cells all over the body. At this time, the patient is in a rest period after each treatment period. If you have limited small cell lung cancer, chemotherapy is the most important treatment and should be given to you radiotherapy. Besides, if you have stage 3B or 4 non-small cell lung cancer, chemotherapy may be considered with a medicine containing platinum. The side effects depend mainly on which drugs are given and how much. Other than that, the drugs can harm normal cells that divide rapidly.

    • Targeted Therapy

Targeted Therapy is one of the treatment uses drugs to block the growth and spread of cancer cells. These drugs target, or alter, a specific molecule or pathway needed for the cancer cells growth Some patient with non-small cell lung cancer that has spread receive a targeted therapy.
